Today we discussed the importance of acceptance, especially with those who struggle with mental health issues.

DID YOU KNOW…

There are 2.6 million kids in the U.S. that have been diagnosed with mental health disorders. Those numbers are steadily increasing, while the amount of recess time, face to face play, and independent problem solving times are declining.

The most common disorders seen in children are: Anxiety, Depression, Conduct Disorders, and OCD.

Many kids with these disorders report feeling unwanted or disliked by their peers. Many of them lack the knowledge or the confidence to take action in resolving this feeling.

We discussed ways that we can show empathy toward children who may process the school environment differently than us. We also reviewed ways that we can be kind to our brains!

As Dr. Seuss once said, “Today you are you. That is truer than true. There is nobody else that is you-er than YOU!”

Give yourself and others some grace! We all need one another to be successful! If you are struggling with any symptoms of a mental health disorder, please take the time to ask for help!
